First trip outside

I had my first visit to The Outside today! I don't mean the bad bit of The Outside which involves being shoved into the PTU and taken to the vet, I mean the good bit where you get to smell the outside smells and you're not in the PTU!

Jasmine got me a nice harness when I first came to live with her last year, but as I was quite sick for a long time, she didn't let me go to The Outside other than to see the vet. I was furry small when I first met Jasmine, so she had bought a furry small harness. When she pulled it out tonight, she was worried that it wasn't going to fit anymore because, well, um, there's a little more of me to love now.

Jasmine adjusted all the straps and we gave it a go. It *just* fits now. I'm glad it fits because it's furry pretty. The harness looks like black velveteen, which is nice because it's sophisticated, but also comfortable. The black velveteen is highlighted with a furry pretty silver sparkly stripe. Furry stylish, and it goes well with my grey furs.

BTW, when I say this is my first trip to The Outside, I actually mean my first trip since the start of my new life, which is since I was rescued by the SPCA and nursed back to health by Jasmine. You can read about my story here and here.

We didn't go furry far at all. In fact, we only went onto the balcony. I have been furry curious about the balcony since Jasmine and Peter started using it recently (now that the weather is nice). I mostly just sat underneath Jasmine's chair and rolled around on my back. I like to roll around on my back when the weather is warm.

Beans should never go away

My beans went away for a few days. One of their friends came over to give me foods and water and pats. He likes poodins and he was nice to me, but it's nice to have my beans back. I miaowed and miaowed at them the second they walked in the door. I was telling them I'd prefer it if they never went away!

In other news, I've been thinking for a while that I should update my profile picture. The one I've been using is from the first day I came to be fostered by Jasmine. That was a while ago and I've grown up a bit since then.

Real live dead crabs

I'm sorry I've been gone from the internet for so long. It is, of course, entirely Jasmine's fault!! She has been neglecting her own blog as well, so I guess that makes it slightly less bad.

So, I'm still here. Still doing my best not to get adopted so that Jasmine fosters me forever. :)

Tonight I did something which Jasmine thought was furry strange. Jasmine and Peter were chomping crabs for dinner tonight. Real live dead crabs they picked up at a fish market this weekend. I was furry interested in this new dinner, so Jasmine picked off some crabby bits and put them in my food bowl. I raced over to the food bowl, sniffed a bit, then walked away! Jasmine thought this was furry strange indeed!

Merry Chrissymouse efurryone!

I think Santy Paws must have been paying attention. I've been (mostly!) a good girl this year (no one's perfect - right?) And I've certainly been a furry good girl since I've been living with my foster beans over the past few months.

Here's the Chrissymouse stocking Jasmine gave so Santy Paws would have somewhere to put my presents. I think it looks furry pretty hanging there next to our Chrissymouse tree.

Jasmine showed me a news article today about more weird beans. Some beans genetically engineered a mouse not to be scared of poodins! In the news video, you can see that the mouse is rudely running all over and around the nice tabby! Maybe this could be a good thing though? Maybe if the mice are not scared of us, and that will make it easier for us to catch them and chomp them. What do you think?

Chatty

I never used to be very chatty. When I first came to stay with my foster beans, I barely said a word (except when they shoved me in the PTU and drove me to the vet - then I said quite a lot of words!)

Recently I've become much more chatty. Often I'm just asking for food, but sometimes I'm just having conversations. Something else I do, which Jasmine thinks is furry cute, is that I always say a little "meow" after Jasmine sneezes. She asked if I'm saying a little kitty "bless you", or whether I'm complaining because her sneezes are loud sneezes!

Kitty necklace

Happy Gobble Gobble Turkey Day!

Happy Gobble Gobble Turkey Day to all the poodins and their beans!

Jasmine is Australian, so she doesn't really know about Thanksgiving. But while she's living in Mericky, she wanted to get into the spirit of things. Since I'm a Mericky poodin, Jasmine asked me about Thanksgiving. I told her that Thanksgiving is about eating lots of gobble-gobble fev-vers and thinking about things you are thankful for.

Jasmine thought this sounded pretty good, so she cooked a gobble gobble for me and Peter and herself. Jasmine has never cooked a gobble gobble before, in fact, she's never even cooked a whole chick-hen before! (Don't tell her I said this, but I think Jasmine is not very interested in, or good at, cooking) So, we were all pretty happy when the gobble gobble turned out so well! Just look at it's deliciousness! I am so purroud of Jasmine!

Jasmine and Peter like vege-bles too, so they loaded up the gobble gobble tray with lots of veges: potato, sweet potato, garlic, broccoli, onion, tomato, brussel sprouts, mushrooms and carrot. They also had sides of asparagus and garlic mashy 'tato.

Of course I had to snoopervise the whole production, because I'm a poodin, but also because I'm a 'Mericky poodin, so I know lots more 'bout Thanksgiving than my Australian foster beans. Here I am giving a final approval of the gobble gobble. Shortly after this, Jasmine put some gobble gobble in my bowl and we all had a furry nice Thanksgiving dinner. Jasmine also blew out the candles 'cos she was worried I might want to play with them (she just thought they would look pretty in the picture).

I'd also like to mention some things I'm thankful for:

I'm furry, furry thankful for the SPCA and the Vet Hospital who saved my life. I would be at the Rainbow Bridge now if not for these good beans.
I'm also furry thankful that I have furry nice foster beans to look after me till I find my forever home. They give me food and treats and nice warm comfy places to nap, and more toys than I've ever seen in my whole life!

I've been a little bit naughty

I've been a little bit naughty this weekend. I did two bad things. :/

Yesterday I was climbing all over the beans when they were in bed. They didn't mind this because they weren't sleeping yet. Peter was reading a book and Jasmine was reading poodin blogs on her laptop.

I had been reading poodin blogs with Jasmine, but then I decided it was time to play, so I started jumping around the bed. In the process of the jumping, I jumped onto Peter's head and accidentally scratched a big scratch on his cheek. It's not a deep scratch, but it is also not a short scratch. He was not furry happy with me. I'm sorry, Peter! I didn't mean to hurt you!

The other naughty thing I did involved Jasmine's necklaces. Jasmine has lots of furry pretty necklaces, and she has some of them hanging on a stand on the bedside table. They are so pretty and girly and I couldn't resist checking them out. I am a furry pretty little girl (that's what everyone tells me), so I thought the necklaces might look good on me. I tried to pull some off to try them on, and I accidentally knocked the stand over. It fell onto the floor and all the necklaces fell too and kinda got tangled up on the floor. I'm sorry, Jasmine! I didn't mean to! I just wanted to try them on and see how they looked with my pretty furs!

I don't think Jasmine is too worried 'bout the necklaces. She said they are 'costume jewellery' and 'not real'. Jasmine 'splained that this means that although they are pretty, they do not cost lots and lots of green papers. Also, I overheard Jasmine say to Peter that she's surprised I didn't knock them over ages ago because pretty dangly things are extremely enticing to kitties. So, I think this means that I'm not naughty for knocking them over today, I'm actually really good for leaving them alone for the past few months!

Nice compliment

Peter gave me a furry nice compliment. He was looking at my furry spots and stripes and said "Ashley, your spots and stripes are so lovely. I never realised how beautiful tabbies were until I met you."

It was such a furry nice compliment, it almost made me blush!

Peter is quite a good bean, not as good as Jasmine, but still a pretty good bean. To show Peter that I like him, I always pat his face when he picks me up. He likes this.

New bedspread and pillows

Jasmine bought a new bedspread and pillows recently. They are furry pretty and girly, and since Jasmine and I are girls, we both like them furry much.

Peter is a boy and so doesn't get much say in these sorts of things. Jasmine bought this stuff when he was away at a conference. Tehehe.

Here I am doing an initial inspection and advising Jasmine how to arrange the pretty pillows.

When everything was arranged to my liking, I lay down in the middle of it so Jasmine could take a photo. Jasmine said the only thing that could make the bed more pretty was having a kitty in the middle of it.

Nicknames

Beans seem to love calling us lotsa diffurrent names. Here are some of the other names I get called:

- Sweetie. This is obviously because I'm sweet.
- Cutie. This is obviously because I'm cute.
- Chompy. This is because I love to chomp things, including fev-ver butt mousies, more fev-ver butt mousies, fev-ver wands, spinning mousie toys, fluffy wands, and Jasmine
- Tiggy. Very occasionally Jasmine accidentally calls me Tiggy. Tiggy is a poodin-who-came-before. She was a lovely little spotty stripey tabby just like me! Tiggy was furry loved, and lived to be furry furry senior (over 20 years!), so I don't mind if Jasmine accidentally calls me Tiggy sometimes.

For more variety, Jasmine also adds "Little" to these names, e.g. Little Chompy, Little Cutie, etc. I think you get the idea!

Another visit to the vet

So just when I was thinking what a nice foster bean Jasmine is, she did something furry not nice!

The first not nice thing she did was not give me breakfast! At lunchtime she came home from work, and I assumed this was because she remembered that she didn't give me breakfast and so had come home to remedy this debacle.

I reminded Jasmine about the empty bowl, but she ignored me. Then she went into the secret room (Jasmine's note: the big walk-in cupboard where the cat carrier lives) and closed the door. I got suspicious, so I hid under the bed. Jasmine emerged a few minutes later and called for me. As I was suspicious, I didn't answer, I just stayed in my hidey spot.

Jasmine wandered around the apartment for a bit, calling my name. I still ignored her. Then she went into the kitchen and picked up the food canister. I knew this might be a trick, but I was SO hungry, I couldn't resist running into the kitchen.

Instead of giving me food, Jasmine scooped me up and forced me into the P.T.U! How rude! She apologised quite a lot for tricking me, but I wasn't accepting her apology. Then, she took me off to the moving machine and drove me to the vet!! I was furry NOT impressed!!

On the way there, Jasmine 'splained to me that the vet needs to take more pictures of my insides because there were weird spots on my lungs in my last xray. This time they sedated me because I was furry 'uncooperative' last time. Jasmine used the sedation as an excuse for not giving me any breakfast. She claims the vet hospital told her not to feed me before sedation!

The vet told Jasmine that the pictures of my insides were looking much better this time. I guess that yucky medicine I had to take the other week must actually have been goodness or something. I have to take more of the same medicine next week, but I think I'm done after that!! Finally!!!

Jasmine is quite a nice foster bean

Thanks to the poodins who expressed concern about me playing in the bag the other day. Jasmine was keeping a close eye on me, and removed the bag as soon as I'd had my fun.

Today I was thinking that Jasmine is quite a nice foster bean. Every day when she comes home from work, she picks me up and gives me a cuddle and says something furry nice to me like "Ashley, you're so lovely" or "hello beautiful poodin". I reply with purrrrr, purrrrrrr, purrr, purrrrr.

Another furry nice compliment Jasmine gives me is "Ashley, you are so perfect". She says this one a lot. I think this means she likes me furry much.

Jasmine also buys me lots and lots of toys. When I find my furrever home, I hope they have lots of toys too. I should tell Jasmine that this is a requirement so she can make sure to ask this when meeting potential adopters.

BTW, this is a slightly old photo of me. My tummy furs have grown back now. I wanted to post this picture because it's furry purple. I like purple and it matches my blog.

Rubik's Cube

Jasmine recently competed in the Rubik's World Championships. She solved the cube in 25 seconds. She said it's not that fast because she solved it in 20 seconds at the last competition she went to. I don't care, I am still furry purroud of her!

Which fev-ver butt mousies do you like best? Where do you get your fev-ver butt mousies?

These are my favourite fev-ver butts mousies. I loooove playing with them, and I am furry good at killing them. And by killing them, I mean pulling all their fev-vers out of their butt!!

This means that Jasmine has to buy me lots and lots of these mousies. In case other poodins like the look of these mousies, Jasmine said to tell you that they are better value at Harris Teeter and Target. They are also available in pet stores, but they are more 'spensive so you can't get as many!

The vet people looked inside my bloods!

As you know, Jasmine took me to the vet hospital on Tuesday. The reason for the visit was because I've been coughing a bit. I don't cough much, but this cough has been around for a while now, so Jasmine and the SPCA wanted to find out what was going on.

The vet people stole some of my blood and took pictures of my insides. After testing, they said my bloods are completely normal (I could have told you that!), so Jasmine was furry happy about that.

However, when they looked at the photos of my insides, they said there are some strange spots in my lungs. They said they didn't think I had asthma (which was one of the possibilities for my cough), but they weren't sure what it was. It might be an infection, so I'm going to have to take more medicine! Groan.

The vet people also said they needed to take more pictures of my insides to try and work out what's happening in me to make me cough. This time they want pictures from different angles. I put up a big fight last time for the x-rays, and I think I heard the word 'sedation' mentioned in reference to more pictures of my insides.

I now know what sedation is. It's when you aren't allowed to have any breakfast, then you get left at the vet all afternoon, then there's a period of time you can't remember, then you wake up but only half wake up because you're still feeling kinda woozy. Hmmm.

Good vantage point

I've decided that this funny metal-box-with-a-door is a good place to sit in the kitchen. Jasmine rarely uses it, so she doesn't seem to mind too much. This is good because it's important to be up high when in the kitchen. You need a good vantage point from which to check out your bean's foods.

The vet stole my blood and took pictures of my insides!

Jasmine took me to the vet today. I was not furry happy about this. I was especially unhappy about being put in the P.T.U. I hate going in the P.T.U!

I put up quite a fight when being forced into the P.T.U, but I did settle down a bit on the drive to the vet. When we got to the vet hospital, I was good initially and stayed still while the vet tech weighed me, but I was considerably less well behaved when they tried to steal my blood!

And then, as if stealing my blood wasn't enough, they held me down and took pictures of my insides using a special camera that can see through my furs and right inside me. I don't remember agreeing to this! I used my claws to show the vet tech's arm what I thought!! I only like the pictures which Jasmine takes of me because they show off my nice furs.

Peter is a little bit upset with me at the moment because I accidentally scratched him. I didn't mean to!

I was feeling a bit on edge because my spinning mousie toy just bit me (he must be getting tougher!). I poofed my tailed to show the mousie toy who is boss, but really, I was a bit scared. Peter picked me up to cuddle and console me and I freaked out and jumped out of his arms. In my haste to jump away, some of my claws accidentally came into contact with his chest.

I'm sorry, Peter. I didn't mean to scratch you. I hope you will still be my friend. Here's a happy picture of us to remind you how nice I usually am.

Spinning mousie toy

Jasmine got me this cool spinning mousie toy. When I try to grab the mousie, he runs away! He's not furry smart though, he just runs around in circles, so he he can't escape from me. I asked him if he would like to come out and play, but he didn't come out. It must be because he's scared of me.

This spinning mousie used to have a tail, but I ripped it off pretty quickly. I'm furry good at pulling tails off my mousie toys, especially my fev-ver butt mousies.

Fev-ver bed

Jasmine bought me this pretty fev-ver bed. She thought it was very fancy and posh, maybe like what famous movie-star kitties might sleep in!

Jasmine thought I would like it because it has fev-vers and I love fev-vers! However, I was actually a little bit scared of it. It has SO many fev-vers that I was a bit overwhelmed. I told Jasmine I prefer my fev-vers attached to mousie butts and wands.

Are you a lap cat?

I'm not really a lap cat. The only time I've napped on Jasmine was after my examination under sedation when the sleepy drugs hadn't worn off yet.

However, I do like to nap next to Jasmine. So she knows that I like her, I'll often curl up really close so that I'm touching her, or sometimes I'll put a paw on her while I'm napping. This makes her smile.

Jasmine bought these pirate kitty pyjamas last weekend. If they were my size, I'd definitely have to wear them today!

I have a hurty on my arm

I had a minor allergic reaction to one of my vaccinations. At the spot on my arm where the v-e-t stuck a pointy thing in me, my skin got all irritated and a big scab grew. Because I am a furry good girl, I didn't pick at it. The v-e-t looked at it on a later visit and he said it would just fall off when it was ready.

Apparently last night was when it was ready to fall off. As usual, I was bouncing around the apartment with my favourite fev-ver butt mousie. I ran past Jasmine and she saw something drop on the floor. She bent down expecting to find mousie parts, but instead found a piece of me!

So now I have another bald patch. It's a bit raw and red, and Jasmine keeps looking at it and asking me how I'm feeling. I told her I'm fine, and that I'm glad my other bald patches are growing back because I quite like my fur!

Here's a list of all my bald patches:

- shaved tummy from emergency surgery
- shaved patch on one arm for sleepy drug they gave me for the surgery
- shaved patch on shoulder where the v-e-t stole some blood
- bald patch on other arm where scab fell off after minor allergic reaction to vaccination

That's a lot of missing fur for a little kitty!

BTW, this picture is from a little while ago, and my tummy fur has grown back more since then. Also, it was before the scab fell off, so you can't see the bald patch on my left arm. I didn't want to show you that because it's bit yucky.

I love to sit on paper

I love to sit on paper. Cardboard too. I regularly nap on the cardboard boxes under Jasmine and Peter's bed. If there's a piece of paper on the lounge, I will always sit on it in preference to the non-papered seats.

Jasmine thinks this is funny. She asked me, "but isn't it more comfortable to sit directly on the lounge?". I replied, "I just like to sit on paper".

Are my ears a little bit frootbat?

A couple of poodins and beans have commented that I have big ears. I take this as a compliment because big ears means frootbat poodin, and frootbat poodins (like Kaze!) are cool.

Jasmine thinks my ears are furry interesting because they are bigger than usual tabby poodin ears and they have dark bits at the end (which is also a bit frootbat). Maybe I have some frootbat ancestry? Maybe my great-great-great-great-grandma-poodin was a frootbat!

Do you bring mousies to your beans?

I've started leaving a fev-ver butt mousie for Jasmine in her bed each morning. She's being a furry good foster mum and I wanted to show her I appreciate it.

I think she really likes these presents because every morning when she finds the mousie in her bed she says, 'Awww, Ashley, you are such a sweetie. You brought me a fev-ver butt mousie.' Jasmine knows how much I love my fev-ver butts, so she knows I must really like her to share them with her.

If I was allowed outside I could get her a really special present - a real live dead mousie! I wonder what she'd think of that?

Two trips to the v-e-t in three days!

I have been made to go to the v-e-t twice in the last three days!

I still haven't fully recovered from my ordeal. I'm heaps and heaps better, but I'm not 100% yet.

I was back at the v-e-t on Tuesday so he could do more 'spections of me. He did a bit of a 'spection, and told Jasmine he'd have to sedate me to do a proper 'spection of my bits. I didn't know what 'sedation' was, but I was pretty sure I didn't want no 'sedation'.

Then last night when I went to my food bowl for a midnight snack, my food bowl had disappeared! I asked Jasmine if she'd seen it, and she said that the v-e-t said I wasn't allowed to have any food after midnight (Why?! I'm not a Mogwai!).

I survived the night without a midnight snack, and I was really looking forward to breakfast the next day. I usually don't need to remind Jasmine about breakfast, she just gives it me, but this morning she didn't. I politely reminded her that I'm a growing kitty and I need my breakfast. She looked a bit sad and said "I'm sorry sweetie, but the vet said no food this morning." What! No midnight snack and no breakfast!

Then at lunchtime, she put me back in the PTU and we were off to the v-e-t again. When we got there, I heard her say something to the front desk about 'examination under sedation'. Then... then... she gave me to the vet people ... and... she left! She left me there all afternoon and didn't come back till the evening.

When Jasmine came to pick me up, the vet people gave her more antibiotics. I thought I'd finished with those things. :(

On the plus side, I'm not feeling too bad at the moment. I'm still eating and playing regularly, which the v-e-t said were really good signs.

Scared Sunday

As you can see below, and as you will have seen in several other posts (these cat beds are comfy, ritual with the kitty bed, snoozy saturday), I really liked my kitty bed. I felt furry comfortable and relaxed in it.

Peter thought he was being a good bean yesterday when he offered to wash my kitty bed for me (the label said it was machine washable). So he washed it, then put it in the sun to dry. When it was dried he put it back on the bed and brought me over to see it.

My reaction was not what he expected. I totally freaked out! I jumped out as fast as I could and refused to go near it!

Jasmine wondered if maybe I was freaked out because my kitty bed used to have my scent, but now it doesn't? She suggested I just put my stinky rub on it to make it better, but now I'm too scared to touch it!

Has this ever happened to other poodins? Do you have any advice?

Snoozy Saturday

During my first week here, my favourite place to nap during the day was on the cardboard boxes underneath Jasmine and Peter's bed. There are so many boxes under there that only someone furry small (like me!) can fit, so it's kinda like my special hidey spot/club house. After a nap under there, I like to exercise my claws on the cardboard boxes.

At night I like to snooze next to Jasmine on the bed. I had exclusive use of Peter's side of the bed my first week here. The first two nights Peter accidentally fell asleep in front of the television, and then the next few nights he was away at a conference!

Jasmine's hand is a catnip mousie

I've made up a new game. It's called let's-pretend-Jasmine's-hand-is-a-catnip-mousie.

Jasmine gave me a catnip mousie, but I wasn't furry interested in it. I think Jasmine was a little disappointed because she always smiles a very big smile whenever I tell her I like the toys she bought. I told her the catnip mousie was okay, but I really prefer mousies with fev-ver butts.

Anyway, I discovered that I find her hand furry, furry interesting and tantalising when she's just washed it and it smells like soap. I like to grab her hand with both paws and hold on furry tight and run my face against it and give it some gentle chomps and bunny kicks. I think Jasmine finds this furry funny because she always laughs at me when I do this. She said I look like other poodins do when they are having special time with their catnip mousies.

I am a good girl, so I don't chomp too hard. I don't break the skin or draw blood, I just hold on furry tight. Jasmine said that sometimes it even tickles.

Do any other poodins do this?

Ritual with the kitty bed

I have a ritual when getting into my kitty bed. I can't just climb in and go to snooze. It's a multi-step process.

First I have to put only my front paws in, and make some biscuits.

Then I put in one of my back paws, and make some more biscuits.

Then I put my other back paw in, and make some more biscuits.

Then I lie down, and make some more biscuits.

Then after many many biscuits have been made, I curl up and have a snooze.

Do other poodins have a ritual like this?

Kitty grass

When it was all grown, she showed it to me. I wasn't sure what it was, so I had to have a good sniff.

I sniffed and sniffed and decided it was okay, so I had a little chomp.

I had a few little chomps over a few days, but then I decided it was boring and I wasn't interested anymore.

Scratchy post

When I first got here, I went to exercise my claws on the bed post. Jasmine quickly say 'no, no...' and pointed to this...

I didn't know what this was, so I just ignored her. Well, I didn't totally ignore her. I stopped scratching the bedpost because I'm a good girl and she seemed quite insistent that I not scratch the bed post. However, I still ignored this thing she kept pointing at.

For the next few days, whenever I walked past this thing, Jasmine would say "hey, Ashley, look at this!" and then proceed to run her fingernails over it. I still ignored it, I just thought she was being strange.

Then Jasmine had an idea. She got my favourite fev-ver-butt mousie and stuck it on top of the thing. I love my fev-ver-butt mousie, so I reached up to grab him. When I did, my claws scratched the post, and it felt good! And this time Jasmine didn't say "no, no, Ashley", she smiled and said "good girl, Ashley!"

Looking for my furrever home

Now that my stitches are out and my incision is healing, the nice SPCA people have put me on their adoption page. You can see the screenshot and description below.

I'm Jasmine and Peter's first foster poodin, so they haven't yet had to deal with giving up a foster. I don't think they are going to handle it too well. We got on furry well from the very first night (which was only a week and a half ago) and have had fun every day since. I think they are going to miss me furry much. I will miss them too. I hope my furrever beans are as nice as Jasmine and Peter!

I read that other kitties like to watch the cat TV. I do too, so I make sure that Jasmine leaves all the blinds raised at least kittyheight at all times. Jasmine is good about remembering this, but Peter is not so good. Sometimes when he's mostly closed it, he finds me squishing myself flat on the window sill so that I can see out the slit at the bottom.

Dearie me. You can still see my shaved tummy and stitches here (this photo is from a few days ago before my stitches came out). I'm not really too bothered though. I'm a sufficiently well-adjusted kitty that I'm okay with showing you my bare tummy. It's actually kinda cooling having a shaved tummy in the hot weather. I do hope my furs grow back eventually though!

Got my stitches out

I had to go back to the vet yesterday to get my stitches out. I was not furry happy about this. Well, I was happy to get my stitches out, but I was not furry happy about being in the kitty cage.

I cried a lot on the way there to make Jasmine feel guilty. It worked because she promised to give me treats when we got home. Then I cried on the way home, so she went to PetCo and bought me new toys! Tehehe!

He gave me a welcome present last week (a tube of Whisker Lickins!) when I first came to stay with Jasmine and Peter. And tonight he played the wand game with me for ages, until I was too tired to play anymore. I like this bean!

So the nice vets fixed me up and now my tummy is small again. What's not small, though, is the shaved patch on my tummy and enormous incision I have! I have lots of stitches too. Would you like to see my stitches? Here they are...

Jasmine and the nice SPCA lady say I have been furry brave. And they are amazed how relaxed and friendly I've been since my surgery, especially considering how sick I was. The vet thought I might run off to the Rainbow Bridge, but I didn't want to do that. I'm only young and I know there are many fun and exciting adventures I need to have first!

Introducing Ashley, Part I

Hi Poodins. We are all furry sad about Tiggy going off to the Rainbow Bridge, but we also have some happy news to report (although it has a sad beginning). Over to you, Ashley...

Hi Poodins. I'm Ashley. I'm going to be living with Jasmine for a little while.

I heard Jasmine say something about 'fostering'. I'm not sure what this is, but Jasmine explained to me that it means that she's going to look after me for a while and help me find my furrever home.

Jasmine also told me about the cat blogsosphere and it definitely sounded like something I'd like to try, so here I am!

I've been having a really tough time recently, but thanks to the SPCA, some nice vet people, and Jasmine, things are looking much better for me now.

I'm about one year old and I'd been living with some beans who were not the most responsible beans. Firstly, they didn't give me a ladiegardenectomy. I'm not even sure what that is, but Jasmine tells me it's furry important and that all young kitty ladies should have one. My former beans also let me roam outside by myself, which apparently is especially bad if you haven't had your ladiegardenectomy.

One day my tummy started to grow and grow, and I could feel wiggly things inside me. Then one day the wiggling stopped, but my tummy was still furry big, and I wasn't feeling too good.

(Note from Jasmine: The kittens had died inside her and she wasn't able to birth the stillborn kittens. She was in labor for days before she was taken to a vet, by which point she was semi-comatose and her uterus had become infected as well. The vet did not expect her to survive.)...

I am furry new at this blogging thing, and I think I need a nap already. I will tell you more about me in the next post!

Furry sad news

There's a lovely senior catizen called Tiggy who's appeared on this blog a few times. We are furry sad to report that she went to the Rainbow Bridge. She was furry, furry senior (over 20 years old) and had gotten furry frail, so she decided that it was time.

Tiggy had a furry long, happy and healthy life with lots of cuddles, food, nice places to nap and beans who told her everyday how lovely she was.

Tiggy was still in good spirits even only a couple of weeks before she went to the Bridge. The last time Jasmine saw Tiggy, Tiggy was asking Jasmine if she would share the ham off her pizza! :)

We are all furry sad, but Jasmine's mum is especially sad. Jasmine's mum is the bean who looked after Tiggy in her senior years, and who was cuddling Tiggy when it was finally time to go to the Bridge.

We love you Tiggy and we miss you.

Introducing Champers

This gorgeous ginger girl is Miss Champers. She lived next door to Jasmine many years ago.

The story of how they met is kinda funny, so I'm gonna tell you about it. One day Jasmine thought she heard someone at the front door, so she opened it. There was no bean there, but when she looked down Jasmine saw a lovely ginger poodin. The poodin just waltzed past Jasmine and into the house and if it was her own...

Champers (after walking a few metres into the house...): "Huh? Hang on a sec, this isn't my house!"

Jasmine: "Hello there lovely poodin. I'm Jasmine. Who are you?"

Champers: "Um, I'm confused, um, I mean, I'm Champers."

Jasmine: "Very nice to meet you. Where do you live?"

Champers: "I thought I lived here, but now that I'm inside I can see that this isn't my house. It does look a lot like my house though."

Jasmine: "I can see you are wearing a collar with a tag. Would you like me to check your tag for a phone number? I could contact your mum for you."

Champers: "Yes please."

[Jasmine then sent a text message to the number on Champers' tag: "Hi there. A gorgeous orange kitty has just wandered into my house. My address is..."]

*ring* *ring*

Jasmine (on the phone): "Hello. Jasmine speaking... Yes, she's here and she's fine... I thought I heard something at the door, and when I opened it, there she was, and she just waltzed straight in... Oh, you're just next door? You've just moved in? This group of townhouses look similar from the outside, I guess she just got confused which was her house... See you shortly..."

This was the beginning of a wonderful friendship between Champers and Jasmine. Champers visited Jasmine regularly after this (much to Jasmine's delight) until Champers' mum bought an apartment elsewhere and moved away. Jasmine hasn't seen Champers since then (over 4 years ago), but she still thinks about Champers and still misses her.

Any bean or poodin want to learn the Rubik's Cube?

I mentioned Jasmine's cube hobby the other day. A couple of you commented that your beans used to play with cubes too, or that your beans thought they wouldn't be able to solve the cube.

Jasmine wanted me to post a link to her Beginner Solution to the Rubik's Cube in case anybean or poodin wants to learn. Jasmine has taught lots of people, and she says learning to solve the cube is much easier than it looks.

I think this is really more of a bean thing than a poodin thing. Opposable thumbs are furry important for cube solving. Jasmine tried to solve it once without using her thumbs, just to see if she could do it. She could, but she said it was much slower and more difficult, and wasn't much fun. She does, however, sometimes enjoy solving it with one hand. She said one-handed solving is easier than two hands but no thumbs, and that both of these things are harder than solving it with two hands including thumbs. Not sure why anyone would want to do this, but she seems to enjoy it.

Two white poodins

Jasmine visited some speedcubing friends last night. The bean at whose place they were meeting has two poodins, a white poodin and an almost-white poodin. She forgot to take pictures of the poodins, so I can't properly introduce them to you. This was silly of her because one of my favourite things to do on this blog is introduce new poodins!

In case you didn't know, speedcubing means solving the Rubik's cube really fast. It's Jasmine's favourite hobby. She loves Rubik's Cubes almost as much as she loves kitties! Jasmine was furry happy last night because she got a new best solve time: 19.53 seconds!

Some small changes to my blog

Thanks to all the poodins who left nice messages on my 100th post. Furry much appreciated!

I've made some small changes to my bloggie recently. The linkies list of blogging poodins was getting furry long, so I decided to convert it to one of those expandable lists, like Hot(M)BC's has. I try to keep the linkies up-to-date, but if there's anyone I've missed, please let me know and I'll fix it!

I've also adopted a Virtual Maukie. She is sitting in the sidebar underneath the profile box. She likes to play, so if you wiggle the mouse cursor around her, she'll try to catch it! She likes pats too. If you pat her head she'll meow, and if you pat her tummy she'll purr. She's such a nice little kitty.

I've been thinking about updating the template for this site too. Problem is that it's such a big task, much more than just modifying what's already there. Might keep thinking about that one...

I'm furry excited because this is the 100th post on Fluffy Feline Friends!

I've met so many nice poodins and beans through the cat blogosphere. It's been so wonderful to see how much love and support all the poodins and their beans give to each other. We've loved reading all the stories, celebrating the good news, and helping poodins through things like Artsy Catsy's Mu Shue Bookmark Benefit and sponsoring Ramona's Top Cats. We've also been touched by the sad news and hope that the purrs we send out help even just a little bit.

One of the most wonderful things for me was helping find a furrever home for Mr Crumples. I'm so happy that my little bloggie helped find a good home for a poor abandoned poodin.

Purrs to all my poodin friends, and thanks for making the cat blogosphere such a wonderful place!
